Braves Stay Hot in Spring Training

First off I would like to say good luck to the U.S. and the other teams in the World Baseball Classic and hope you represent your country well. The Braves players representing their country are
Chipper Jones and Brian McCann (U.S.),
Javier Vazquez
(Puerto Rico),
Jorge Campillo (Mexico),
Manny Acosta, Yeliar Castro,
and Concepcion Rodriguez (Panama),
Gregor
Blanco (Venezuela),
And Scott Diamond and Bryan Dumensil (Canada)

Also, congrats to Andruw Jones who had 2 hits in his game. It may not sound big, but it’s huge for Andruw. He now has a batting average over .200. He also didn’t strikeout any and walked once. Amazing.

Now about the game against the Astros….
Reyes pitched another excellent game. He pitched 4 innings of no-hit ball while walking 2 batters and striking out none. He is making a case for himself and he is doing it well. He has a 1.00 ERA and is showing that he is good enough to keep in the Braves organization.
Everyone else also pitched very well. We allowed 0 runs, 2 hits, and 3 walks. We only struck out 4 the whole game, but it didn’t matter as they couldn’t do much offensively.

We did well with our offensive as well as we scored 13 runs. Lately, we have been putting up many runs due to our patience in the batters box. Today is the 2nd day in a row that we have walked 8 times. He also had more runs than hits…again. This is a good sign and I hope we keep it up.
Garret Anderson did strain his calf while warming up, and he was replaced by Matt Diaz who had a big night going 3-4 and was a triple away from the cycle. Martin Prado also had a big night going 2-4 with 3 RBIs and a walk. Here is the box for the hitting stats.

I know it’s doesn’t matter at all but the Braves are tied with the
Pirates for best record in the NL and half a game behind the Orioles in
the Grapefruit League.

The Braves will play the Yankees for the 2nd time this spring with Jair Jurrjens, Buddy Carlyle, and Blaine Boyer scheduled to pitch. Hopefully they will come out with a W.

Walked eight times? That’s pretty crazy! Patience at the plate is key though. I get so aggravated when guys swing at the first pitch! Did you see the Braves edition of “30 clubs in 30 days” on MLB Network? It was pretty good.

Awesome day. We batted through the order 5 times in 8 innings and the pitching staff allowed 5 baserunners all night. Awesome. Though grapefruit league games are meaningless, I think the fact that we’re establishing a winning culture with the club is huge. Especially today when we went into the Yankees’ house and beat them.

I agree with you. Today was a grand one and everything went right. We are showing everybody we can compete. Tomorrow should be a big test when we face the Phillies.
