Braves Trade for Javier Vazquez

Well The Braves have officially traded for Vazquez in a 6 player deal. The deal is reported Vazquez and pitcher Boone Logan for Brent Lillibridge, Tyler Flowers, third baseman Jon Gilmore, and pitcher Santos Rodriguez.

I’m a little concerned about the trade though. JV is a great pitcher and has been among the leaders in K’s and innings, He is not more than a 3rd starter and will be used as a 4th starter here. Do I want him? YES!! He’s a great addition to our pitching staff. We just gave up a lot in Flowers. If Flowers was excluded in the deal and so was Boone Logan, this would have been a fair deal for both sides.
I did not expect us to use Flowers, but his value is so high right now that we could have gotten so much more back.

Now I would have been a lot better if Dye was included. That would have made the deal great while filling in two holes with a trade. Hopefully we can still get him.
Lillibridge has great potential, but he just needs to learn how to hit! His fielding is great though. Boone has been SO inconsistent with the Sox also, so we aren’t getting much but another arm for the bullpen. I hope to learn more about the deal when Wren talks about it. hopefully we are getting someone else or we aren’t giving up as much.
My overall ranking for this trade as of now: 7 out of 10 stars.

If I were Towers right now, I might have had a heart attack. Flowers was someone he really wanted, and now he is out of here. It probably means that he needs to make a deal soon so we won’t trade anyone else he had his eyes on. Hopefully he caves in a couple of days. And other Braves fans, don’t get nervous that we are gonna empty our farm system. As of now, we barely touched it. Even the Peavy trade won’t hurt it. I am going to guess as of now if Kotchman gets injured, Prado will move to 1st and Infante or Kelly will move to 2nd. We lost both Thorman and Flowers as possible 1st base candidates.

Keep the moves coming Wren! We want Peavy or Burnett next!

Time to Deal!

As the offseason begins, we take a look at what I am thinking right now.
Flowers should continue to impress so he can be a big trade part.
Blanco, Diaz, Reyes, Jones, and Lillibridge and possibly Johnson will
probably not be in Atlanta next year. Expect Flowers to be traded. If
that does not happen, expect Corky Miller to be traded/Released. Morton
has a chance to be traded. Expect Escobars name to be thrown in every
here and there. Expect Smoltz to come back and Glavine and Hampton
possibly coming back. Soriano might also have his name thrown in a
couple of times. Ordonez/Holliday and Peavy and
Burnett/CC/Sheets/Lowe/Garland are all possible players to play on the
Braves next year. Cox will probably retire after this season. So will Smoltz and Glavine if they dont do so this season.
My personal thoughts and ideas:
Send Lillibridge to Twins and maybe a low-level prospect to get Delmon Young and send him to the
Padres and throwing in some more players for Peavy? Young has more
value than Blanco and Diaz and maybe we wont have to send an extra good
prospect to SD. Also trade for Ordonez from the Tigers and/or Holliday. Sign Lowe, Burnett, or Garland.

Time to look for trade bait?

As the World Series is going on, the Braves need to start thinking who to trade when December comes. I personally want to see Reyes, Miller, James, and some of our bullpen out of Atlanta. Of course these players do not have very much if not no trade value, but it is possible to throw them in a trade somewhere to continue to build our farm system. Players with trade value that have been thrown in some trade rumors are Lillibridge, Morton, Reyes (since he is young and could be a possible 4th or 5th starter), Brandon Jones, possibly Escobar, Johnson OR Prado (one will probably get traded, Kotchman (which is not likely but could possibly happen if a good deal comes around), Flowers (due to McCann at Catcher and Freeman at 1st base), Blanco, possibly Diaz, and MAYBE Soriano. It is not positive that Wren will even trade this season because of this year’s free agency market this year. Dunn, Peavy, Burnett, Burrell, Nady, maybe CC or Sheets, Lowe, Garland, and MAYBE JUST MAYBE Teixeira are all players that we are watching this off-season. Wren has already announced we are not giving up our top prospects, so the Peavy deal is not a “done deal” just yet.
