Manny Signs And This Time Its Real!

Because I already went over this, I will just copy the things I said earlier because I was right about it yesterday.
——————————————————————————————————————————————
Manny Ramirez has FINALLY agreed to a two-year, $45MM deal with the Dodgers.
It is really about time that he signed. I was actually thinking he
wasn’t going to play this year because of him and his agent’s, Scott
Boras, greed. In 53 games in L.A. he hit .396 with 17 HR’s, a 1.232
OBS, a 743 SLG, .489 OBP, 53 RBIs, and led the Dodgers to the playoffs.
Well I am glad the “Manny Sagas” are over with.
I believe this time it is real since other reporters are actually agreeing with it.

Details on the deal:
Two-year, $45MM deal with an opt-out clause after the first year.  The deal also includes no-trade protection. 25 million the first year, 20 the second. A portion money over the years is deferred. This is all pending a physical.

Next up… Peavy. Then….Brian Roberts.

You Knew It Was Too Good To Be True

UPDATE! Scott Boras has teamed up with Barry Bond’s agent Jeff Borris to make a 2-1 signing! You can sign Manny and his buddy Barry all for only 50 million dollars over 2 years! They think it sounds much more attractive now that Bonds is in the picture. The Yankees and Dodgers are in the running for them. The Giants have now dropped out due to “finical issues.”
—————————————————————————————————————————————
Scratch that. Everybody except ESPN is reporting that it is false. Well, back to “Manny Being A Greedy Free Agent.” Tune in next week as we watch Scott Boras make trips to Japan, San Francisco, and New York looking for someone to pay his client what he wants.

Well here is a more interesting and sad story to read if you have not already read it.

Can Andruw be Andruw Again?

As Andruw gets released today, you assume he will be a Brave. That is very likely, but you have to wonder when Spring Training comes if will officially be done as a player, he gets a spot on the bench, or he makes that Center Field job his. The most likely option is the second one. Nobody really expects AJ to go out there and have another ’05 season. Heck I don’t even expect him to him over .240 or have over 15 HR’s. There is a chance that he will play so bad in Spring training that the Braves don’t even bother sending him to the minors and just release him. I’m sure most Dodger fans are expecting (and hoping) that.

I would be awesome to have Andruw being himself. Yes that means 06 and below. Everything after that was just hard to watch. There were sometimes when Andruw hit the ball so hard that he fell back as the ball was launched upper deck. Then there were times when he swung so hard and missed that he fell back.

https://i0.wp.com/mlb.mlb.com/images/2006/11/03/XR5dFfgU.jpgBut alas, once he became a Dodger, his defense was no more. He started gaining weight, his speed decreased, and he couldn’t really catch anymore.

Yeah it was bad.
People use to cheer when he was up to bat. Now he gets booed.Loudly

Pitchers used to wet their pants when he was up to bat.
Now every pitcher wishes they had him up to bat when bases are load and a hit would win the game.

Back with us he was Hall of Fame material. Now his HOF status is in doubt. He can still be Andruw Jones the greatest defensive CF to ever play baseball and hit 40 home runs every season. The pitchers can still have a nervous breakdown when they see he is up to bat. He can still hit .300 and have 35 home runs. He can still not try to hit a home run every at bat. He can still be Andruw being Andruw. But he has a lot to prove before he roams our center field again.
I think he can still be this guy.   https://i2.wp.com/artfiles.art.com/images/-/Andruw-Jones-99-NLCS-Winning-Hit-Photograph-C10126008.jpeg

He has to prove first though.

Do you think he is done? Or do you still think that somewhere down there there is the Andruw Jones that Atlanta fans used to love and other teams would hate?

Furcal Not A Brave

Well if you haven’t heard now, Furcal isn’t going to the Braves. After we had an agreement, he went and signed with the Dodgers. It isn’t looking to good for the Braves considering this is the third time this has happened…

Wednesday
Apparently Yahoo’s Tim Brown said Furcal is “nearing an agreement with the Dodgers.”
This isn’t good.

Tuesday
According to Ken Rosenthal, shortstop Rafael Furcal has reached an agreement with the Braves and just needs to pass a physical. It is a 3 year deal with a 4th year vesting option. This would be good news to the Braves considering he was a fan-favorite here in Atlanta and came up with up with the Braves. He also considers Bobby Cox someone like a father. As most of you know, he declined a 4 year 36mm from Oakland and is probably going to decline their 4 year 40mm deal as well.

There was lots of talk about him coming here during the Peavy talks when we considered moving Escobar to San Diego. A couple of things could happen here
1. We might continue talk with the Padres and send Yunel to SD.
2. We might trade Yunel somewhere else to get another player.
3. We might trade Kelly Johnson to the Cardnials for Ludwick or Ankiel
4. We might trade Kelly Johnson to SD in the Peavy deal.
5. We might trade Kelly Johnson to another team for other players.
6. We might keep both Kelly and Yunel and move Key back to left field, move either Yunel or Furcal to SS, and move the other to 2nd base.
The last one seems the most likely, but I am not sure what will happen. Prado might end up having to be the backup 2nd, 1st, and 3rd baseman. Gotay and Infante might not see as much playing time as well. Either Infante, Escobar, Prado, or Johnson will be traded most likely. Norton will most likely not return as well.

Furcal is a good lead-off hitter and hits for average. He is NOT a power hitter, but if we can get a power hitter behind Chipper, we will be a good team (well at least if we get some more pitching). Oh and he will bring back one of the things that we thrived on during the 14 consecutive playoff years, Speed. We haven’t had that since he left.

ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick has a source saying no agreement has been reached, but there is interest. I am hoping Rosenthal is right. We will have to play the waiting game for now.

Crasnick now says the Braves have a preliminary agreement with Furcal.

Apparently Yahoo’s Tim Brown said Furcal is “nearing an agreement with the Dodgers.”
This isn’t good.
