Well The Braves have officially traded for Vazquez in a 6 player deal. The deal is reported Vazquez and pitcher Boone Logan for Brent Lillibridge, Tyler Flowers, third baseman Jon Gilmore, and pitcher Santos Rodriguez.
I’m a little concerned about the trade though. JV is a great pitcher and has been among the leaders in K’s and innings, He is not more than a 3rd starter and will be used as a 4th starter here. Do I want him? YES!! He’s a great addition to our pitching staff. We just gave up a lot in Flowers. If Flowers was excluded in the deal and so was Boone Logan, this would have been a fair deal for both sides.
I did not expect us to use Flowers, but his value is so high right now that we could have gotten so much more back.
Now I would have been a lot better if Dye was included. That would have made the deal great while filling in two holes with a trade. Hopefully we can still get him.
Lillibridge has great potential, but he just needs to learn how to hit! His fielding is great though. Boone has been SO inconsistent with the Sox also, so we aren’t getting much but another arm for the bullpen. I hope to learn more about the deal when Wren talks about it. hopefully we are getting someone else or we aren’t giving up as much.
My overall ranking for this trade as of now: 7 out of 10 stars.
If I were Towers right now, I might have had a heart attack. Flowers was someone he really wanted, and now he is out of here. It probably means that he needs to make a deal soon so we won’t trade anyone else he had his eyes on. Hopefully he caves in a couple of days. And other Braves fans, don’t get nervous that we are gonna empty our farm system. As of now, we barely touched it. Even the Peavy trade won’t hurt it. I am going to guess as of now if Kotchman gets injured, Prado will move to 1st and Infante or Kelly will move to 2nd. We lost both Thorman and Flowers as possible 1st base candidates.
Keep the moves coming Wren! We want Peavy or Burnett next!
I have predicted many, many lineups for the Braves this year, but now I am going to make my final prediction and stick to it until it’s no longer possible. I will also predicted any MAJOR trades/free agent signings. It’s impossible to know all the little AAA and AA guys we sign that can’t make it on majors. Well here it is.
C- McCann. No comment here. Sammons will be the backup unless one gets injured. Then Flowers gets the call up
1st- Kotchman. I could see Prado, McCann if needed, Thorman, or even Flowers playing here —–IF—- needed.
2nd- Prado. Infante and Gotay will back him up.
3rd- Chipper. Again no comment except that Infante, Gotay, and Prado could back him up
SS- Furcal. Renteria is another choice but I’m giving my pick to the man who we made into what he is today. Lillibridge and Prado will be backups, NO INFANTE HERE. Oh and yes Escobar is a Padre next year.
OF- Frenchy, Schafer, and…….Dye. The big surprise here is…… Andruw Jones ladies and gentlemen!! Andruw will be a Brave, but only used as a backup. The other backup includes Anderson, Infante, and Diaz.
Transactions- Peavy for Jojo, Esco, Boyer, Hernanadez, and Locke. Dye and Vazquez for Brandon Jones and a couple of Prospects. Jones for a couple of prospects with little value and the Dodgers will pay most of his contract. Kelly Johnson, Blanco and Chuck James will be included in one of the three and I am going to say so will Morton along with those prospects.
4. Vazquez with Hanson in at the middle of the year.
5. Campillo with Hudson replacing him when he’s ready.
WHEN someone gets injured, the following pitchers will replace them in order: Redmond, Hanson, Bennett, and Carlyle
Soriano- 2nd Closer
Gonzalez- 3rd Closer
Parr- yes he is usually a starter but I say move him to the ‘pen
There are gonna be maybe a couple of other guys but I’m not sure how they will do during Spring Training.
Thorman, Stockman, Hanson, and Redmond will probably see some time during the season, but there are so many guys on Atlanta’s roster that I’m not sure about so I won’t say I’m sure they will.
Yes there are a heck of a lot crazy trades that may occur, but this is just how I see it. We will use every penny of that 45 million for it though. The Andruw thing might not fall though because of money issues, but I won’t guess on the money.
Glavine will retire , Hampton won’t resign, and we will get rid of Miller forever. A couple of other things will happen but I’m not sure what they will be.
Feel free to call me crazy, but I am only giving you my opinions. Anyone who wants to share comments, opinions, or thoughts, feel free to comment.
Well as most know, Phoenix beat Mesa in the championship. Hanson was starting for Mesa and went strong for 5 innings only allowing 1 run on 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out 8. Right when he left (pitch count too high) Mesa’s bullpen allowed 9 runs. Unbelievable. Mesa only put up 4 runs and not much went right for them except for Hanson. Out of the 3 Braves hitters playing, Flowers went 0-4 with a field error, allowed one stolen base, and caught one stealing, Matt Young went 1-5 with 3 strikeouts, and Van Pope went 1-4 with a double, a run, and 2 strikeouts.
On a good note, Flowers led the league in Home runs. Hanson also won the Triple Crown, leading the league in ERA, strikeouts, and wins. Hanson will also most likely win the MVP award for the AFL having a lights-out season. Flowers will probably receive MVP consideration, but he will come in 5th or 6th.
Hopefully we can get Hanson in the majors as soon as possibly, but not rush him like Morton or Reyes. Flowers might be in the majors in the ’10 season.
Well another start for Tommy Hanson and another win.
Hanson went strong for 5 shutout innings on Monday only allowing 2 walks and 1 hit while striking out 10. This has been amazing partly because almost everyone has over a .300 average in the league. Hanson now leads the league in Wins (5) ERA (0.63) and Strikeouts (49) and that would be all triple crown stats. Congrats Tommy.
Flowers is also on fire and has homered in 3 straight games and hit his league leading 12th on Monday as well. He went 3-4 with a homer, 3 runs, 3 RBIs, and a walk. He has a .394 average.
Matt Young went 1-5 with 2 runs, a walk, and a strikeout. He is hitting .363.
Van Pope showed that he could replace Chipper if he retires soon by going 3-3 with a Grand Slam, 4 RBIs, 1 run, and 2 walks. He is hitting .286.
It was a grand day for 3 Braves prospects as Mesa beat Surprise 16-4
Flowers had a career day going 3-4 with 3 Home Runs and 7 RBI’s!!!
Hanson pitched 5 innings allowing 3 hits and 1 earned run, striking out 9 and improved to 4-0 with a 0.76 ERA
Matt Young went 3-5 with 3 runs scored, a double, 2 RBI’s, and an outfield assist.
This was truly a great day for those 3!
Flowers leads the league in HR’s with 10. Hanson leads the league in ERA, Wins, and Strikeouts. Young has a .365 Average and Flowers has a .387.
Also, Flowers name has been thrown into the Peavy deal, but with a day like this, the Braves might consider keeping him, even with B-Mac behind the plate.
